Using smart tools has made the precise handling of wood easier. Human strength will no longer be necessary to cut wood and transport it. Nowadays, CAD (Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing) is creating new designs that can be then brought to reality using Computer Numerical Control (CNC) technologies, which allow robots to cut materials and model parts at a high precision, low cost and reduced likelihood of errors.
The Smart Handheld Woodworking tool developed at MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology – uses a two-dimensional map created by the tool itself, which simply positions the slide on the object to be changed and together with a drawing of the required cuts plans it automatically and with high precision does the work previously done by humans. This technology avoids the risks for human workers, reduces the errors associated with the cutting of hard materials, and enhances the quality of the final result.
